Family Time Around a Wedding

Mount Hood from The Dalles
As I drove away from Portland on a day with clear blue skies, I could see Mount Hood clearly in the distance. The picture above was taken from over 100 miles away. Great places loom large in our minds, and in this case, on the horizon as well.

Chris, my cousin who I had not seen since he was eight years old, got married to

a lovely lady named Amanda. I still don’t know her at all and oddly I don’t know him either but I plan to remedy this next time I’m in Portland. The wedding was remarkably tasteful and well done and provided an opportunity to see lots of family. Very nice.

The next day I attended a Superbowl party. “What? Travis Good watching a football game? What’s up with that?” Well, I can’t even tell you which teams played or who won but it was a great excuse to do more visiting, this time with the Evans who I’ve known all my adult life.

So now did I hit the road? Nope, I still had more opportunities to spend time with family. My brother’s birthday provided an excuse for yet another gathering. Twila and Tracy, both visiting from the U.K. where Tracy (my brother-in-law) recently competed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Leeds, were in town. Tracy was feeling quite cheffy and willing to cook-up a birthday feast, which he did. It was delicious.

Between all the gatherings were lots of other family activities. Tracy and I completed transitioning my mother to a Mac.

It was fun to watch a computer genius get his first serious exposure to an Apple computer. We also took a day trip down the Columbia River Gorge, visited my Uncle York (my mother’s brother) and more. I even managed to get a good swim five of the seven days I was in Hillsboro. Yes, Oregon is always a pleasure for me to visit.
