Deeply Impressive Zion

Zion Canyon
I had ambitions of riding my bike up and down the six-mile length of the canyon. The day was perfect for it but the timing wasn’t. The flat tire had thrown a kink in to my day’s schedule.

I awoke to a flat tire in the middle of nowhere. Bryce Canyon to my east and Zion Canyon to my west, I was smack dab in the middle of nowhere with no repair services for tens of miles. No matter! As a road warrior I’ve become adept at changing tires and getting repairs. This time was no exception but tire repair would have to wait because Zion Canyon National Park was calling.

Zion is in the top tier of national parks. One clue that the National Park Service knows this is that they charge $25 to visit the park! That’s top flight pricing reserved for other great parks like the Grand Canyon. No matter, I have an annual pass which I buy for $80 and usually get around $400 of value. Enough of this lead in, please enjoy my pictures below.

Sixty miles northwest of Zion is Cedar City. I went there looking for a repair but I came away with four new tires and an oil change. More than I expected but probably what I needed and a good precautionary move. I was about to enter into no man’s land, hundreds of miles with very few services. Better to venture forth on tires with tread and in a car with fluids topped off. Besides, across the street was the first Starbucks I’d seen in days … I can always kill a few hours over coffee and wifi!
