Picture Taking while Bike Riding

Bike Riding
I found myself in Memphis on Martin Luther King Day and, having visited the Lorraine Motel before, I wanted to revisit to pay homage to the man. Seems thousands and thousands of others did too!

I know, I know. Walking and chewing gum at the same time. What a talent!

Seriously, this first stage of my road trip is about distance punctuated with bike rides. It started with a couple of rides in Virginia. The following day I rode along rivers in Knoxville and Nashville. Today my river rides were in Memphis and Little Rock … and they were the best yet!

Today I layered picture-taking onto my tracking routine. What’s this mean to you? Simple. You can now see some of what I was seeing. On the routes at the links below you’ll find little camera icons along the path. Clicking on any of those will bring up a balloon with a picture I took at that exact spot. It’s really pretty neat.

Pictures can be seen at MapMyRide.com where you are taken after clicking the maps below.

Memphis Ride

Bike Riding

The weather couldn’t have cooperated better. Sunny and warm for winter (peak temp of 72 degrees) it was a perfect day for riding. My plan had been to follow the waterfront of downtown and connect it to a ride north of town on Mud Island. Mission accomplished! The only thing that didn’t go perfectly was my plan to revisit my favorite local coffee shop … it had gone out of business.

Little Rock Ride

Bike Riding

The river between Little Rock from North Little Rock is spanned by six bridges in just a couple of miles. I wanted to zigzag across a few and take in the waterfront on both shores, starting and ending at the Clinton Presidential Library. The waterfront is greatly improved since my last visit though construction is still strongly in evidence. When the Six Bridge Project is finally complete the waterfront will be very bike friendly.

Let me know what you think of this mapping of bicycle rides!
