Acadia National Park

Jordan Pond
Jordan Pond is a spot I got a bit caught-up in. The water is crystal clear, the water was like glass, and the surrounding hills were quite the spectacle. No wonder I returned there four times!

Twenty five years ago Beth and I spent some of our honeymoon in Bar Harbor so we could enjoy this neighboring national park. My memory of Acadia was vague. I remembered islands, camping at ocean’s edge, and eating lobster but not much more. Perhaps it was the good vibe of getting married mixed with a wondrous setting but returning has long been a travel priority.

Now I’ve been back to Acadia and can confirm that the good vibe was legit. While it takes an effort to get there, it’s worth driving to the northern coast of Maine. Bar Harbor is a lovely little town with all the services one really needs and one of the best bakery/coffee shops I’ve ever frequented. B&Bs abound in the old “cottages” from yesteryear and restaurants of all types can be found. As a place to stay to see Acadia National Park it can’t be beat.

The park itself has much to offer. By car you can see most of the coastline from the 27 mile loop but go inland by bike and you’ll find 54 miles of old carriage roads. I could go on and on about its water, hills, beaches, mountain, and other great features but I won’t. I’ll simply point you to my small sample of pictures and let the images do the speaking. Hopefully you too will have the opportunity some day to visit the first national park of the east.
